The IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center (https://www.passcal.nmt.edu) at New Mexico Tech (https://www.nmt.edu) is seeking applicants to fill the full-time position of Staff Scientist/Data Specialist. The Center is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is operated by NMT professional staff. In association with researchers and students from around the world, Instrument Center staff engage in hardware/software development and training associated with earthquake, volcano, glaciological, and other geophysical research, handle logistical support and fieldwork for Earth science experiments, and maintain the world’s largest academic pool of research seismological instrumentation.

JOB SUMMARY
The Data Specialists provides data archiving support for geophysical experiments. The majority of the support is for seismological experiments, but also includes magnetotelluric and GPR experiments. The primary objectives are to ensure the best possible set of data and metadata are archived with the IRIS DMC, and to provide support contributing to the overall PASSCAL mission facilitating science in the IRIS community. The Data Specialist will also participate in user training and fieldwork as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Master’s degree required in Geophysics or related science OR Three (3) years directly applicable experience. Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems and scripting languages. Familiarity with time-series data formats.
Desired: Seismological field experience. Database knowledge. Geophysical data formats including SEED, SAC, and SEG-Y.
