Whom It May Concern:
If you consider, there are two values in sac header. Depmax and
Depmin which illustrate their amplitudes. I want to obtain their
related periods but I do not know how to do it.
I would be pleased if you help me.
Thank you,
Reza

Hi every one,
Sac reads the max peak point during the waveform and save them in
Depmax or Depmin.
I want to read Depmax or Depmin in a specific place. For instance in S
group or around T0.
Markptp can read in a specific window but it reads peak to peak and I
want to read only peak in a window range.
I would be pleased if you help me.
Thank you,
Reza,

Re: sac header - George Helffrich - 2009-09-26 17:31:52
Somehow, two of the scripts in sac/bin ended up with DOS line ending so
will not work. That is, every line in these text files end in \r\n
instead of the Unix \n.
These scripts are sgftoeps.csh (used to translate .sgf graphics files to
EPS files) and sgftox.csh (used to produce a screen display of a .sgf file
using gs).
Corrected scripts wil be included with the patches we will be uploading to
IRIS.
In the meantime, if you want to fix these files yourself, on Linux you can
use dos2uni…

Hi,
I use SAC 101.1 on ubuntu 8.10
I write the sac file name wrong.
Then "error 1301" occurs.
I try to read file again
but I get "segmentation Fault" error.
here is an example
SAC>
SAC> r 09077_1647_RRRR.1
SAC> cut 100 300
SAC> r
SAC> r 09077_1647_RRRR.1x
ERROR 1301: No data files read in.
SAC> r 09077_1647_RRRR.1
Segmentation fault
This always occurs. Not depend on data file or operating system (I used Fedora 8 two months ago)
best regards
onur

There have been some traffic on sac-help about SAC bugs. Brian Savage has
found fixes and is preparing patches for some of these. I give a list
below. I also describe a bug and a fix I found in the utility program
sgftops. As this program is a "stand-alone" program (does not require
anything more than a compile/install line), I give the patch at the end.
The current plan is to send IRIS the patches to post on the SAC software
Web site in a month or so. Please share with sac-help any …

Hi,
My problem is this:
markptp command reads absolute value of maximum pick to pick.
Now I want to read only the largest peak or trough during the
waveform.I want to do it for ML magnitude.
Best regards,

Re: reading largest peak or trough - Onur Tan - 2009-09-12 23:19:39
Hi there,
I've run into an error when using the beginwindow command in the
newest version (101.3b). Plotting works fine in a single plot window,
but when I try to plot in a new plot window using "beginwindow 2" then
"plot", I get a bus error and sac quits. This command is in a macro
that worked prior to changing to the newest version, and it's also a
problem outside of a macro, just simply trying to plot after a bw 2
command.
I'm running the binary distribution of 101.3b for Mac…

All,
I have a problem when transforming the sac file to a binary file. I
only want the seismic event data, I don't need the header.
Also, does anyone know how to put the individual seismic events
together, just like SEGY does. I have a lot of data to transform.
Best,
Yi

Hi,
I've been trying to install SAC on my Fedora 11 box (kernel

Hi to everybody,
I just installed sac-101.3b linux_x86_64 on my 64-bit machine running Ubuntu.
Differently with the previous version, I noted that sac is not able to correctly
read the header's fields (in particular: nzyear, nzjday, nzhour....) of segy,
big-endian data. I can forward a sample file, if needed. Any help-suggestion
is greatly acknowledged.
cheers,
Gilberto
