We are getting close to the release of v101.6. For previews of coming
attraction, one can see the current versions of the updates for the HISTORY
and CHANGES files at the IRIS SeisCode SAC project site:
<https://seiscode.iris.washington.edu/projects/sac/wiki/Documentation> (no
password is required).
In revising some of the documentation, there are two topics that we would
like comments about:
1. Writing files in Neural Network format (analysis). We are unfamiliar
with it and have no …

Hi,
I am running SAC v101.5c under CentOS 6.4 (Final) x86_64.
I want to read a sac file, plot it, and visually inspect the waveform.
If the waveform is good, just go on; if not, just quit.
I want to do it in a script, but not a SAC macro file.
A simple script is like below.
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
open(SAC,"|sac");
print SAC "fg seis\n";
print SAC "p\n";
print SAC "q\n";
close(SAC);
Then I run this script, the waveform appear in a window and disappear
quickly, so I can see nothing

Is there an easy way to add multiple files to a stack list in one line?
SSS> addstack *.sac
doesn't work
Thanks,
Shahar

I want to convert a seismogram to just plus or minus ones, so I use
"abs" to make a second file of absolute values of the seismogram file
and then use "divf" to divide the seismogram file by its absolute
values. This generally works, but on one file I get a fatal error,
specifically SAC error 911. In the online list of SAC errors however,
there isn't an error number 911. Does anyone know what that error is?
Incidentally, it's not that I'm dividing by zero, since the smallest
number in the absol…

Introduction of SAC at IRIS / Seiscode
IRIS has set up a new community repository for seismological software.
The SAC development team has begun to populate a SeisCode project at URL
<https://seiscode.iris.washington.edu/projects/sac>. The public has read
access to this site. Included in this SeisCode project site is a Wiki and
an Issue / Bug tracker.
For now, only the developers have edit access to the site and we are using
it to post "previews of coming attractions" for v101.6, which …

SAC> getbb a
a = 1.5
SAC> setbb b ( integer %a)
ERROR 1021: Correct number of arguments for this inline function call is 1

Why dosen't this work?

Dear list member.
I want to convert measured data by a seismograph into displacement using
file1.SAC and file2.PZs which I have downloaded from JWEED. I am a new user
of SAC and I don't know how can I find an appropriate value for f1, f2, f3
and f4 in TRANS FROM POLEZERO S %pzfile TO NONE FREQ f1 f2 f3 f4
I would appreciate if anybody can guide me. is there any example except
what is inside the manual of SAC?
thanks in advance.
regards
Ali

Hi,
I want the KZTIME in all my files to be 00:00:00.00.
For example, if I have "kztime = 00:00:00.095", I do
SAC> ch allt 0.095
which changes the time appropriately for kztime, b ,e, o, etc.
Basically, I want to subtract kztime from kztime.
Is there a way, in SAC, to extract kztim in seconds to use it for changing
the time?

-- Dear list members.
I am a coastal engineer who is not familiar with seismology. for my
project, I have to use SAC in order to convert recorded data of
seismometers to acceleration and velocity. as far as i found in IRIS and
other seismic communities, SAC is the only program which can do it for me.
however, after 3 days working on different version of it (Linux 64 bit and
Cygwin) I couldn't mount it. I mean I cannot run it. it makes me nervous
cause I couldn't find an step by step guide.

Hello
I recently install SAC on my new computer (iMac) operated by Mac OS X 10.8.
This OS does not have X11 so I installed XQuartz instead.
This XQuartz seems to work just as X11. But SAC does not recognise X11.
Here is the error message as following.
SAC> fg impulse
SAC> bd xwindows
X11 Screen does not exist
Segmentation fault: 11
I appreciate if you can give me any suggestions to resolve this problem.
Thank you
Tomoko

Hello,
I have installed a Reftek 151-120 sensor with a DAS 130. In order to plot
the noise curves I need to create the poles and zeros file. Reftek provided
me the poles and zeros but I don't understand how to calculate the constant
for the PAZ in SAC format. Acoording to what I read and my maths, the
constant is +7.623696e+16 but when I plot the noise curves they do not seem
correct because below 0.004 Hz the slope is positive, and the horizontal
components exceed the NHNM till 0.05 Hz. C…
