I have run into the 'minimum precision issue' that is discussed in https://ds.iris.edu/message-center/thread/7341/.
I have a solution. I am hoping that someone more familiar with SAC can tell me if my solution is legitimate. There is some conflicting supporting information...
(everything inside of [ ] is a SAC command/output)
Here is the error message when I read in the file, which is a full day (86400 seconds) of 250 Hz data (21600000 points).

I am an italian student who is working with sac for my master's degree
thesis.
I am writing to you because I am experiencing a problem in using sac.
I read the waveforms, I open the phs file with ohpf, I pick the P and S
phases, I save the picking typing H on the waveforms, and, lastly, I save
the file phs with whpf. However, when I open the file phs it is an empty
file.
The A, KA, T0 and KT0 are correctly written in the header.
