These were: 1503, 1514, 1519, 1525, 1587, 1601, 1728, 1797, 1798 Programming notes ================= These are our standard notes that we keep while programming. If a Texan appears in the list above as having recorded then that means these problems were overcome. We keep these so we can see if we have the same problem with the same unit from one experiment to the next. These are probably not all of the problems, just all of them we wrote down. 1527 Button broken? 1613 Button broken? 1657 Red after start acq 1688 Red after programming Red after start acq 1716 Can't access disk 1722 Red after programming Red after start acq 1723 Red after start acq, loses comm 1733 Button broken? 1743 Red when disconnected 1755 Drive won't mount, won't enumerate 1773 Button broken? 1834 Button broken? 1843 Red after programming 1883 Red after start acq 1885 Red after start acq 1890 Button broken? 1912 Needed to be reprogrammed 1943 No response Download notes ============== Same as above. 1508 Drive OK, USB circuitry not 1547 Blinking green then red after connection 1555 Blinking green then red after connection 1611 Red before connection Summary ======= The Texans did not last as long as we thought they would. In the lab we had several units that recorded for 130 hours. Idle time was measured to consume about 1/3 the amount of power as the average power required for recording. We thought that we would be cutting it close at the end of the downloading phase with 3 days of idle time at the beginning and 90 hours of recording, but most of the Texans didn't even make it through the recording phase. All of the batteries were checked by hand before loading into the Texans, so we know they were good. Have there been changes to the firmware since our tests (in April??) that may be causing the units to consume more power? Did the LEDs coming on after the units stopped recording as the battery voltage fell cause the batteries to drain further/faster? Several Texans showed good battery voltages at download, but somehow lost their timing somewhere along the line. Some of the units made it all of the way through. How did that happen? I recommend a re-creation of the experiment using at least 5 Texans that made it all of the way through, 5 that almost made it, and 5 that failed to record very much data to see if the same results are obtained and to make it possible to see what actually happens as the batteries drain down. The USB sides of the hubs have problems no matter how much the cables get shortened. A specific hub will have problems with specific ports when it comes to mounting and communicating with the Texan internal USB drives. Add or remove a Texan and the problems may shift ports, or may stay on the same ports. Connect up another set of 15 Texans and the problems may shift ports, or may stay on the same ports. The shifting seems almost random, but repeatable if you keep everything else constant. Some of the hubs also have a "problem" with my Sandisk Micro Cruzer USB drive. I cannot plug it into any USB port on the laptop that one of these hubs is connected to. It won't mount. However, this same USB memory stick always seems to work fine when plugged into any of the USER USB ports on the hubs themselves. I don't know what this is all about. During the programming phase several units showed no indication that they were functioning after programming. i.e. Pressing the status button showed 'nothing'. Possible status button problem. We had to remove some of the USB drive modules from some Texans and place them into other (working) Texans to get the data off. This created a TRD file with the serial number of the surrogate Texan. The memory Clear command will only erase the TRD file matching the unit's serial number. Should the Memory Clear command be changed? Only formatting the drive can get rid of both files. The deployment teams didn't lose any Texans! Good job!
