Purpose: This dataset was collected as a way to teach students how to operate geophysical equipment in the field to collect data. We selected the site for its potential to exhibit interesting dune features and possibly hydrologic features in the GPR data. The GPR lines were collected perpendicular to the Lake Michigan shoreline in Illinois Beach State Park. Students took turns operating the cart for data collection. Dune succession is visible in the data near the shoreline, and then reflections fade away as the collection line passes over swampy back dune area with silt layer.
