The SAC manual lacks details when some of the seed files are a little
ambiguous.

For instance:

For IU, QSPA, Location=20, VHZ seed file:

SAC> read 2008.175.21.57.57.6228.IU.QSPA.20.VHZ.M.SAC

SAC> LH lists:

IFTYPE = TIME SERIES FILE

IDEP = UNKNOWN

DEPMIN = -1.089e+08

DEPMAX= 1.967e+08

What are these units?

If these units are displacement in nano-Meters, then has an instrument
response been applied or must one be applied with something like "transfer
evalresp to none .."

Any help would be most appreciated,

Mike Padgett

    Hi Mike,

    i assume you have used rdseed to convert seed volume to sac format,
    and also have used some one of Q data type variable

    Q = specify data type (E=Everything, D=Data of undetermined state, M=Merged Data, R=Raw waveform data, Q=QC'd data);

    so, you see the M=Merged data, M is present in you file name.

    Try rdseed with only Q=QC'd data and you obtain data with quality control.

    HTH,

    Milton

      Many thanks, I will try the Q option.

      I can merge once all if the files are definitely in the same units with instrument response removed.

      Seed files downloaded using Breq-Fast using a quality=Best for networks CI, II and IU all produce (for me) SAC files with quality= M, "Time Series," IDEP= UNKNOWN.

      Using rdseed with -Q Q, found nothing in a set of files from CI, IU and II.

      I went back to Breq-Fast and tried to get new seed files with Quality= Q. The II network had "Q" files, but neither CI nor IU could find any waveform data with "Q" for quality. Both CI and IU had "B" data.

      Are there network administrators who can certify the contents of the "B" seed data for CI, II and IU?
