Hi,
Welcome to our webservices email list. And of course the first message
is not really on the subject of web services, but instead on logistics
for the workshop.
I'm flying into San Jose Airport last in the afternoon on Tuesday, Sept
21st. I know some others are also coming in between 4:30 pm and 6 pm and
thought we might be able to pull together enough folks to make a one-way
car rental a good option. That would also provide some flexibility for
stopping along the way for a decent meal. Anyone interested in joining me?
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Monterey!

Hi All -
I've been involved in the Marine Metadata Interoperability initiative this
past year, and would like to post some information about the new
webservices
email list (this list) on the website there. So, I hope that this is an
open list,
and that new members would be welcome.
Also, at the upcoming IRIS Web Services workshop, I'd like to see if
I can get some volunteers to go over the MMI website with me during
some of the breaks, to gather some ideas for the upcoming redesign.
The MMI site is intended to provide guidance and information on data
management and interoperability for people working in the marine
sciences, so it might be of interest to some of the participants in the
IRIS
workshop. If you're interested in this, please send me an email or find
me at the
workshop.
The MMI site is at http://www.marinemetadata.org. It works as a wiki, so
you can add content if you would like to register, or just view it as a
visitor.
Thanks!

Hi, Nan.
I think it would be fine to publicize this list a bit. Our hope is that this will be a
forum for the discussion of issues in web services as they relate to providing scientific
content and services. Having a broader membership ought to encourage that discussion.
I would be happy to look over the mmi stuff with you.

Nan,
Have you seen the site at:
http://www.nceas.ucsb.edu/ under Ecoinformatics?
It's focusing on marine ecological data, but there is clearly some overlap
in subject matter with your area - although they seem to be taking another
approach.
