Rod,

This issue comes up on the list from time to time, and folks often have good luck , as did I, installing an uninterrupted power supply that also cleans up the power curve and eliminates noise and spikey supply. If you'd like, e-mail me and I can get you the model of the actual APC unit we installed.

Hi Rod,

Did you get a new black box and power supply back in January? If so, did it make any difference?

Did the glitches every 10 minutes end once school was out? You could try using a UPS to power the AS1, but I'm not sure it that will help or not.

I guess you are also seeing less noise from movement within the building.

I see that you have installed the latest version of AmaSeis. It has a much better filter for the helicorder view, which can filter out much of the local noise. I've been experimenting with various filter settings on my home system:

Currently I'm band-pass filtering to enhance periods from 12 to 25 seconds. This makes distant earthquakes stand out much more from the background noise. During the school year it may really help a lot with the local "kid noise."

I'll cc the rest of the IRISED list, as I think many schools could benefit from the new filters that are available with the latest version of AmaSeis, which is dated 2006.05.16. To upgrade, just run this program: http://www.geol.binghamton.edu/faculty/jones/AmaSeisUpgrade.exe AmaSeisUpgrade.exe .

Cheers,
John

Hi John;
It is interesting that once school is out my signal cleans up immensely,
especially the frequent & periodic glitches. It does not have the noise we
discussed over the winter. Take a look at it. Do you think some sort of
power supply filter might help during the school year? Hope your summer is
going well.
