Hello,

The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT)?s Traveling
Workshops Program provides a great opportunity to bring national leaders
in geoscience education to your campus. The program consists of two
different tracks?one for courses (Building Stronger Geoscience Courses)
and one for departments (Building Stronger Geoscience Departments).

NAGT covers the cost of travel for the workshop leader(s). The host
institution is expected to provide housing, meals, local ground
transportation and any other on-site expenses (e.g., duplication of
handouts). The Traveling Workshop Program description:
http://nagt.org/nagt/profdev/traveling.html
*
Application deadline: Monday July 21*.

*Building Stronger Geoscience Courses*
These half-day to full-day workshops bring the best of the On the
Cutting Edge workshops directly to departments. Workshop topics focus
on your choice of one or more of the following four topics:

* Designing effective and engaging courses
* Metacognition, motivation, and the affective domain
* Active learning
* Assessing learning

These workshops are designed for groups of about 30 (with a minimum of
15) participants. They are appropriate for faculty from across the STEM
disciplines, so invite colleagues from other departments and/or
institutions to build a large enough group. Visit the Building Stronger
Geoscience Courses website for more information
http://nagt.org/nagt/profdev/trav_courses.html

*Building Stronger Geoscience Departments*
These 1-2 day workshops bring two trained leaders to your institution to
facilitate a working session with your department. The workshops bring
the knowledge gained from the Building Strong Geoscience Departments
project, InTeGrate, and other NAGT-sponsored efforts onto your campus to
support conversation and planning by your department as a whole. These
workshops offer a menu of interactive sessions fully supported with
online resources. All sessions feature presentations, discussions, and
action planning. Your department may choose from the following topics
for your workshop.

* Curriculum and program design
* Beyond the curriculum
* Recruiting students
* Preparing students for the workforce
* Program assessment

Visit the Building Stronger Geoscience Departments website for more
information http://nagt.org/nagt/profdev/trav_departments.html
*

The Best of Both Worlds*
You can also apply for a workshop combining aspects of both the Building
Stronger Courses and Building Stronger Departments. These workshops are
1 to 2 days long. After your application has been accepted, workshop
leaders will work with you to design parameters of the workshop you have
in mind.

*Apply online by Monday, July 21* to have a Traveling Workshop Program
come to your department.
*Online application form*:

Please forward this opportunity to other colleagues who might be
interested.

Thanks,

Heather Macdonald
