Tenure-track Faculty Position in Petroleum Geology or Geophysics



The Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences (GMES) at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (appointment will be commensurate with qualifications at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the broad field of Petroleum Exploration and Development Geology or Geophysics. The anticipated time for the appointment is August 2015, but is negotiable. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable: petroleum geology, reservoir characterization and modeling, reflection seismology, sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, structural geology, and well logging.


We welcome applications from scientists/engineers that demonstrate the potential for developing an internationally recognized research program. Applicants with industry experience who can collaborate with energy industry partners are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to establish a record of publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, as well as teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to petroleum, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and actively participate in industry and student organizations. The candidate must have a Ph.D. and, preferably, post-doctoral and/or industry experience.


The University has an excellent reputation in undergraduate and graduate engineering education along with highly active research and graduate programs in a wide range of engineering and science fields. The GMES department offers B.S, M.S, and Ph.D. degrees and has been committed to sustained excellence in research and innovative teaching. Michigan Tech is located in Houghton, Michigan.
