We’re looking for highly motivated PhD students to work on a broad spectrum of geophysical topics ranging from observations of earthquakes source parameters to earthquake rupture simulations. The students will have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge techniques in both seismic data analysis and numerical modeling to better assess and mitigate seismic hazards. The students will work in a collaborative environment and get exposure to a variety of expertise such as Earth’s structure, lithosphere dynamics, tectonics and structural geology in the department. Full financial support including fellowships and research assistantships will be provided for the students.

Students with B.S. or M.S. degree in geophysics, geology, engineering, physics or a closely related field are all welcome to apply. Some programming experience is recommended. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Yihe Huang (yiheh<at>umich.edu) to discuss project ideas and life at UMich. Applicants can find more information about Dr. Huang’s research at http://sites.lsa.umich.edu/yihehuang/. More general information about the application is available at https://lsa.umich.edu/earth/graduate-students/application-info.html. The application deadline for Fall admission is January 5, 2017.
