Dear Colleagues,

The deadline is near and registrations for the EarthScope National Meeting are pouring in. Register and submit your abstract this week, as the deadline for registration, abstract submissions, and hotel reservations is Friday April 21st, only 4 days away!

The major theme of the meeting is EarthScope Synthesis, and the first day of the meeting will be given over to an all-day Synthesis session with an exciting array of speakers:

Ved Lekic (University of Maryland), Andrew Schaeffer (University of Ottawa), Bill Hammond (Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology), Lucy Flesch (Purdue University), Emily Chin (Brown University), Colleen Dalton (Brown University), Maureen Long (Yale University), Brandon Schmandt (University of New Mexico), Lijun Liu(University of Illinois), Tony Lowry (Utah State University), Katie Keranen (Cornell University), Kaj Johnson(Indiana University), and Julie Elliott (Purdue University)

You can see the draft program on the Agenda tab of the meeting website: https://www.iris.edu/hq/workshops/2017/05/earthscope_17

Oral sessions for the remainder of the program will be selected from the contributed abstracts. Our original plan was to do this from the abstracts submitted early, but that did not work out. Submit your abstract now to one of the 8 session topics below! We anticipate having partial support for travel for all of the selected oral presenters (at a minimum, reimbursement of the registration fee).

Session Topics (contributed talks and posters)

Fault systems and distributed continental deformation
New EarthScope results from Alaska
Fluids and melt in the crust
Subduction zone structure and dynamics
Stable(?) continental lithosphere
EarthScope applied beyond North America
EarthScope applied beyond the solid Earth
E&O What have people done and what are results from EarthScope E&O activities?

Remember, the registration, abstract submission, and hotel reservation deadlines are all this Friday, April 21st! Don’t miss out! All details are at the website:

And don’t forget to check out the field trip on Thursday afternoon. Spots on the field trip could sell out, so sign up and pay for the optional field trip, and see some of the iconic sites related to the 1964 Alaska earthquake.
