The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (the bureau) is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated seismological professional to manage and operate the New Mexico Tech (NMT) seismic networks. Located in Socorro, New Mexico, the bureau is a Research and Public Service Division of NMT, serving as the state’s geologic survey responsible for studying the state’s natural resources and hazards. The bureau is comprised of a diverse team of geoscience researchers and technical staff embedded in a top-ranked STEM university.

The successful candidate will participate in seismic and geophysical field experiments in collaboration with researchers within NMT and partner agencies at the state and federal level tasked with state-wide seismicity and earthquake hazard issues, including the NM Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, USGS and ANSS (Advanced National Seismic System). Job duties include all components of seismic network operations, including field work, site permitting, telemetry maintenance, and operations of a seismic observatory and data center from the New Mexico Tech campus. Seismic monitoring operations are maintained by computer systems running Earthworm software for waveform acquisition, data processing and archival. Earthquake location and cataloging of events recorded by the networks are compiled and disseminated via reports. The successful candidate is expected to: submit proposals to funding agencies to maintain and expand current capabilities, update webpages with results and appropriate metadata, and act as the bureau’s point of contact for media inquiries and scientific presentations.

Applicants should submit a resume, official college transcripts, a letter of professional interest, and the names and addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers of three or more references to: New Mexico Tech, Human Resources, 801 Leroy Place, Brown hall, Box 121, Socorro, New Mexico 87801-4796
