Dear Colleagues:

We invite you to consider submitting an abstract to the AGU Fall Meeting session T035: Structure, evolution and influence of the Antarctic and Arctic lithosphere

https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm17/preliminaryview.cgi/Session24789

Session Description:

Understanding the structure and evolution of the lithosphere at the poles is important in order to comprehend its influence on the overlying ice sheets and to determine the role of the Antarctic and Arctic continents in the evolution of the global plate tectonic jigsaw. The international community has made remarkable progress in investigating several polar frontiers over the last decade. Airborne and marine geophysical surveys, new regional and continental-scale data compilations, global satellite missions, seismic and GPS networks, and geological studies are helping transform our knowledge of the Antarctic and Arctic regions.

We solicit contributions from studies describing: crustal and lithospheric architecture; the tectonic processes responsible for the evolution of the polar regions and -broader linkages with Gondwana, Rodinia and Columbia; the processes responsible for oceanic gateway evolution; and the influence of lithospheric structure on ice sheet dynamics.

Sincerely,

Fausto Ferraccioli, NERC British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK
Doug Wiens, Washington University in St Louis, St. Louis, MO, USA
Richard Saltus, NOAA Boulder, Boulder, CO, USA
Joachim Jacobs, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway
