Subject: Urgent inquiry

Dear admin
I hope this email finds you well. This is Mako Sitali, writing from the Geological Survey of Namibia. I have been trying to download seismic data using this website(http://ds.iris.edu/SeismiQuery/breq_fast.phtml from CTBTO's IMS AS067 station but it turns out that I cannot get it on the same day. There's always a delay to get the data. For example if I need data for today the 16th of August it won't be available until the next day. Did you perhaps make an upgrade or is it my network connection?

    Hi Mako Sitali,

We archive data as we receive it, so if it's taking a day for data from a particular network to become available, it's because the station is taking that long to send it.

I actually don't see a station AS067 in our data, although it might be under some other name. If you can find this station at http://ds.iris.edu/mda I can take a closer look.

    Cheers,
    Adam

The station name is TSUM ( Tsumeb) it’s an auxiliary infrasound and seismic station.

Thanks, I was able to look into this.

I think the problem is in the SeismiQuery tool you are using. In particular, at the bottom of the form it has "query over" options:
        - DMC archived waveforms or
        - metadata/dataless/RESP

If you choose "DMC archived waveforms" it appears to consult some availability data that only gets updated once per day. As a result, it will always claim that there is no data for the current day.

I've reported this issue to the developer, but I'm not sure what the fix would be. We are planning to rewrite these tools pretty soon, so fixing the existing code is a fairly low priority right now.

A workaround is to choose "metadata/dataless/RESP" here. This will let you submit the request regardless of what the availability data says.

If you want a quick check to see whether the data is actually available, this tool provides a daily view of station data: http://ds.iris.edu/ds/nodes/dmc/tools/stationmonitor/IU/TSUM/

        Cheers,
        Adam
