Job no: 492881
Work type Research Faculty or Associate
Location: Golden
Categories: Faculty (Academic/Research/Teaching)
Job Description: The individual selected for this position will do post-doctoral research in several diverse areas. First, quantitative understanding of fiber optic sensing from wells in unconventional resources during hydraulic fracturing and later during production. Fiber optic observations use sensing methods such as distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and distributed temperature sensing (DTS). Development of numerical modeling and inversion of such data will be a part of the research. Second, machine learning and data analytics applied to reflection seismic and borehole data to invert for reservoir properties. Third, advances in land reflection seismic (surface and borehole) data acquisition, processing and inversion. Topics of interest are new methods to improve land acquisition, advanced processing and imaging methods such as full wave-form inversion and seismic attribute inversion and analysis methods. The successful candidate will be able to work in one or all of these areas and guide graduate-level students to advance research in these areas, as well as advance their own contributions. RCP will provide appropriate data in all of these areas through the multiple current and ongoing projects.
Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a doctoral degree in a related field, and have a strong background in physics, mathematics, and computing
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will possess additional knowledge in geophysics, geology, and engineering, and will possess superb interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative style of research.
Department Description: Founded in 1926, the Department of Geophysics conducts educational and research programs leading to B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Geophysics and Geophysical Engineering. The Department is comprised of 12 regular academic faculty, plus another 12 research and affiliated faculty, 150 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Within the Department of Geophysics, RCP is one of Mines’ most well-established industry-funded research consortia, and is dedicated to the study of integrated reservoir characterization. Their unique model emphasizes a multidisciplinary, collaborative team approach for practical research and preparation of graduate students. Working closely with industry sponsors, RCP explores new methods and technologies to gain improvements in oilfield performance prediction and optimization. For details on the consortium please see http://inside.mines.edu/RCP-Home.

How to Apply:
Applicants will be asked to complete an online application (personal information, demographic information, references, veterans status) and upload a letter of interest addressing each of the qualifications, a resume, and a list of publications and prior research funding.

Review of applications will begin by October 1, 2017. Questions about this position may be addressed to Sue Jackson, RCP Program Manager, at sujackso<at>mines.edu.
