Dear Yon,

Answers:

1) No, you need to define these variables in SAC header,

2) do:
sac> ch CMPINC 90
sac> ch CMPAZ 90
for E component,
then
sac> wh. # this command write the variables to header
or
sac> wo. # overwrite the sac file.

similar procedure per N component.

After check with command

sac> lh. # list header

here you can see the CMP** variables in header.
