Two Postdoc Positions in Passive and Active Seismic Imaging

Geophysics Group, Los Alamos National Laboratory

We seek outstanding candidates for two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to conduct research in passive and active seismic imaging. The successful candidate will develop novel algorithms for microseismic event location and focal mechanism inversion, acoustic- and elastic-wave imaging and inversion, and apply them to field seismic data for subsurface characterization and monitoring. The applications of the research include geothermal exploration, monitoring for geothermal production and enhanced geothermal systems, and monitoring for geologic carbon utilization and storage.

Minimum Job Requirements:
• Strong background in microseismic imaging.
• Strong background in acoustic- and elastic-wave imaging/inversion or in numerical modeling of elastic-wave propagation.
• Proficiency in programming using Fortran/C.
• Experience in parallel computing using MPI/OpenMP/GPU.

Desired Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively and independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assignments to meet project deliverables.
