Research and Development (R&D) Center for Earthquake and Tsunami (CEAT) etc., Solid Earth Science Research Related Departments, at Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), invites applications for two research positions of solid earth sciences as Principal Research Scientist or Principal Technical Scientist.
[Research Description]
At JAMSTEC, we are working toward a comprehensive understanding of subduction zone dynamics and material/energy recycling in the Earth’s interior, which are fundamental causes of earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity in subduction zones. As a future direction of solid Earth sciences at JAMSTEC, we strive to constructively integrate our research projects and contribute to the mitigation of geohazards by applying our scientific knowledge of earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity.

[Job Specification]
JAMSTEC seeks applicants who have successfully conducted research on at least one of the following topics:
1) Investigation of the nature of seismogenic zones based on marine geology and geophysics, in projects involving JAMSTEC’s research vessels and marine exploration systems.
2) Modeling/simulation of current and future plate coupling and tsunami generation and propagation, including the development of a seafloor geodesy and tsunami monitoring system.
3) Volcanic structure, submarine volcano activity and formation processes, Earth interior structure and material recycling, and oceanic plate formation processes.
Applicants are required to possess leadership skills in planning and conducting a research project, and producing outstanding scientific outcomes.

[Requirements]
Principal Scientist: The successful applicant must have completed a Ph.D. and have a strong enough record to be a principal scientist in a closely related research field.
