The Department of Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT) at Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), provides a nurturing environment for development work with applications to both software and research relating to social and scientific issues that fall within the remit of the priority project "Cross-Ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) (Project period: FY2018-FY2022)" funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and for building innovative survey technology for enhancing the performance of deep-sea resources. We invite Project Scientists, Project Technical Scientists and Project Engineers with sufficient work experience to apply for these positions. Applicants should be interested in developing numerical models to optimize systems for mining and rifting mud from the seafloor.

The project is divided into the following specific tasks:
1) Development of the numerical model for evaluating the slurry transportation system based on a riser pipe.
2) Development of the numerical model to optimize the dredge head used to mine the seafloor.
3) Validation of the model with an ocean and laboratory based experiments conducted by other SIP members.

[Requirements]
Project Scientist:
The successful applicant must have completed a Ph.D. and have a strong enough record to be a scientist in a closely related research field.

Project Technical Scientist:
The successful applicant must have completed a Ph.D. and have a strong enough record to be a technical scientist in a closely related research field.

Project Engineer:
The successful applicant must have a bachelor's degree in a closely related field. Those who have equivalent ability with extensive experience are also acceptable.
