The Position
You as the successful candidate will play a critical role in developing innovative seismic imaging methods that use data from dense seismic arrays, large-N seismic arrays and exploration-grade 2D and 3D seismic data from Australia and elsewhere to image the subsurface on multiple scales.

CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Postdoctoral Fellowships. These fellowships provide experience that will enhance career prospects and facilitate the development of potential leaders for CSIRO.

Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist or Engineer in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

• Developing and using novel full waveform seismic inversion, reverse time migration and other seismic imaging methods to image the subsurface at different scales integrated with petrophysical knowledge.
• Contributing to the effective functioning of the Deep Earth Imaging research team and help deliver CSIRO’s organisational objectives, plans and strategies.
• Undertaking regular reviews of relevant literature and intellectual property.
• Preparing appropriate conference papers and presenting those at conferences as agreed with the Theme Leader (Seismic Imaging).

Salary: AU$82K - AU$93K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

• A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in in a relevant discipline such as Seismology or Computational Seismology.
• Demonstrated experience in full waveform seismic imaging.
• Extensive experience and skills in computer programming.
• A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
• The motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
