The USGS Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory has an opening for a Geophysicist to help oversee the activities of the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) equipment depot. This includes interacting with vendors to stay at the state of the art with new seismic monitoring equipment, managing large equipment contracts, and giving advice to regional networks on equipment best practices and equipment configuration.
This position is located at the Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (ASL) in Albuquerque, NM, which is part of the Geologic Hazards Science Center (GHSC). The GHSC conducts research in geology, geophysics, seismology, engineering seismology, and geomechanics in order to assess seismic hazards and risk and ground-failure hazards on regional, national, and international scales. The ASL installs, operates, and maintains the USGS component of the Global Seismographic Network (GSN) and the backbone of the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) and ensures the quality and integrity of the data. GSN and ANSS data are used for real-time seismic monitoring to detect and locate earthquakes around the globe.
