We are pleased to announce that the Surface-Wave Radiation Patterns (SWRP) data product developed by Boris Rösler and Suzan van der Lee of Northwestern University is available from the IRIS DMC. The Surface-Wave Radiation Patterns product computes and displays the azimuthal dependency of fundamental-mode surface-wave radiation patterns for different frequencies based on a precompiled database of the complex spectral amplitudes for Green’s functions generated with a mode-summation method like Mineos (https://geodynamics.org/cig/software/mineos/). The SWRP product is a two-part data product:
The event-based component of it is automatically generated following all global earthquakes with a GCMT magnitude greater than or equal to 6.0 and as soon as their GCMT moment tensor is published. The radiation patterns are computed for six frequencies between 0.01 and 0.06 Hz and are displayed and distributed as single-frequency and combined plots.
The interactive component of the product allows users to explore the effect of change in frequency, focal depth or moment tensor components on the surface waves radiation patterns . Users can select the base event from one of the previously loaded large (M ≥ 8) earthquakes, an event from the event-based radiation pattern product, a random moment tensor, or a user-defined moment tensor. At the end, users can share their findings with other researchers by sharing the link to the page or may download the source information along with the radiation pattern image from the page.
