GI - WATC Field Technician

WATC is looking for a well-qualified field engineer to help with the continuous operation and maintenance of seismic and infrasound monitoring stations in support of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and the newly formed Geophysical Detection of Nuclear Proliferation University Affiliated Research Center at the GI. They will engage in both field- and lab-based work to maintain high data availability and quality throughout the global network. At UAF, performing engineering tasks, fieldwork preparations, and reporting requirements will be the mainstay of the day-to-day routine. Extensive fieldwork will take the technician to remote locations, where they must be flexible in the face of rapidly changing requirements and situations, be able to independently assess and solve technical problems, and work as a part of team.



Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

**US citizenship is required by the funding agency.**

Knowledge of field-based research and field support.
Knowledge of infrasound & seismic sensor design, construction and calibration.
Ability to develop engineering solutions to infrasound & seismic problems and implement them in the field or in a laboratory.
Ability to communicate program data and results effectively to managerial, technical and non-scientific personnel.
Ability to manipulate data and produce charts.graphs to display trends in data and/or stations performance.
Ability to work in remote locations without direct supervision.
Ability to interpret data results for reporting to DTRA/CTBTO.
Required Education and Experience:

B.S. in physical sciences, electrical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering or closely related field and a minimum 4 years experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Infrasound, seismic or equivalent field-based research
Sensor maintenance and calibration
Scientific field work
Must be a U.S. citizen due to the nature and sensitivity of the position.

Salary Information:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt, term-funded, Grade 78 with salary commensurate with experience.

Term Positions:

This position is a term-funded position through June 30, 2019, and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
