The Geophysics Group (https://www.lanl.gov/org/ddste/aldcels/earth-environmental-sciences/geophysics/index.php) in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (https://ees.lanl.gov) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (https://www.lanl.gov/) is seeking outstanding candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to conduct research in microseismic imaging. The successful candidate will develop novel algorithms for microseismic event location and focal mechanism inversion, with applications to geothermal energy, geologic CO2 storage, enhanced oil recovery, and unconventional oil/gas.
The Geophysics Group focuses on a broad array of energy, environmental and national security challenges with research into seismology, infrasound, ground-shock modeling, and acoustics to address critical needs in energy, seismic hazards, threat detection and reduction, earthquake prediction, and subsurface imaging.

Minimum Job Requirements:
• A demonstrated background in a specific Earth science subject area related to a focus area of the Geophysics Group.
• A demonstrated background in computational physics, computational science, or computer science with Earth science applications.
• A record of scientific productivity through publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Strong background in microseismic imaging or related work.
• Proficiency in programming using Fortran/C.

Desired Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively and independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assignments to meet project deliverables.
• Experience in parallel computing using MPI/OpenMP/GPU.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance.

Education: PhD in related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
