Hi Ashish,
Simply a syntax error. Try:

SAC> R XX.BVLK.S1.BHZ.D.2002.009.235959.SAC
XX.BVLK.S1.BHZ.D.2002.009.140130.SAC
SAC> MERGE OVERLAP AVERAGE

I suggest you add GAP option as well.
