*Updating Design Goals for the Global Seismographic Network (GSN) to
Enable New Discoveries*

*Date/Time & Location*

Thursday, October 10th from 10:30-12 PM in the Galleria North Room

*Conveners*

Katrin Hafner, IRIS
Peter Davis, University of California - San Diego
Dave Wilson, USGS Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory

*Description*

The GSN is in the process of updating the network’s design goals last
revised in 2002.  Community input in this process is essential.  To that
end,
this will be the subject of a SIG entitled, “ Updating Design Goals for
the Global Seismographic Network (GSN) to Enable New Discoveries“ at the
upcoming
SAGE/GAGE workshop

Dave Wilson, Pete Davis and Katrin Hafner will lead a discussion of new
analysis techniques, discoveries, and 21st century technology advances
in sensor
hardware, power systems, telemetry and data acquisition and processing
software that will impact the network’s capabilities in the coming
decade.   In particular
we will be looking to better understand how new design goals may reflect
evolving basic scientific research and earthquake monitoring needs.
Emphasis will be placed on updating the desired scientific observations
that the GSN should provide over the actual hardware requirements
and specifications.

We hope you can join us and share your ideas on this topic.
