Dear Members of the IRIS Community,

On the last day of the SAGE-GAGE Annual Workshop in Portland, a joint meeting of the IRIS and UNAVCO Boards unanimously approved the establishment of a Negotiation Committee to explore the terms and conditions of a potential future merger between our two organizations. The main motivation for this merger is the announcement by NSF at the workshop that they will require the SAGE and GAGE facilities be managed as a single, integrated facility with one operator when these facilities are recompeted at the end of our current 5 year awards.

The IRIS members of this joint Negotiation Committee are listed below. This committee has been tasked with developing a proposed agreement and plan of merger that would be effective October 1, 2023. These plans will be reviewed by both Boards in August 2020 at next year's GAGE-SAGE community workshop.

If you have any questions or comments about this process, please contact Doug Wiens or Bob Detrick, or one of the IRIS members of the Negotiation Committee.

Regards,

Doug Wiens, IRIS Board Chair
Bob Detrick, IRIS President
