A PhD position in Seismology and Marine Geophysics is available at the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island. We seek highly motivated students with strong quantitative and computational skills and keen interests in Earth Sciences. Potential research projects include, but are not limited to:
- Magmatic and tectonic processes at Kilauea Volcano
- Mantle plume – mid-ocean ridge interaction at the Galapagos Islands
- Structure and dynamics of continental margins
- Reverse time migration imaging
- Full-wave seismic tomography
- Machine Learning and data mining
The projects will provide exciting opportunities to advance understanding of volcanic processes, mantle plumes, and/or crust and mantle structure. The successful candidate will participate in multidisciplinary research and gain experience in ocean-bottom-seismic cruises and state-of-the-art high-performance computational methods to address outstanding questions in earth sciences.
