Registration is open for *Magnetotelluric Science Vignettes - SAGE MT
Facility Webinar Series* on April 23 at 2:00 PM EDT:

*Description: *IRIS is funded by the National Science Foundation under
the SAGE award
(https://www.iris.edu/hq/news/story/nsf_makes_5_year_93m_award_to_iris_to_manage_the_sage_facility)
to establish a new pool of portable magnetotelluric (MT) instruments at
the PASSCAL Instrument Center—which maintains equipment, provides
training, and assists in data handling and archival at no cost to
Principal Investigators. We expect to have both new long-period and
wideband/broadband MT instruments available to potential users by the
end of 2020. The first webinar in this series provided an introduction
to MT and described the nascent PASSCAL MT facility:

In this webinar, seven practitioners of MT research will present brief
case studies which demonstrate how MT is a versatile tool for
investigating different facets of the earth system.

*Presentations:*

* Exploring Antarctic Subglacial Hydrology Using MT - Chloe Gustafson
(Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory)
* Characterizing Geothermal Systems with MT in Three Dimensions -
Jared Peacock (USGS)
* Using Electrical Resistivity to Inform Hydrothermal Models - Jeff
Pepin (USGS)
* MT for Mineral Resource Investigations - Paul Bedrosian (USGS)
* A MT and Seismic Investigation of Magma Storage and Transport at
Okmok Volcano, Alaska - Ninfa Bennington (University of Wisconsin)
* Ocean-Continent Subduction, Backarc Extension, and Upper Mantle
Hydration Probed Using MT - Phil Wannamaker (University of Utah)
* MT Insights into Unusual Lithospheric Properties in the Southeastern
United States - Ben Murphy (USGS)

Together, these presentations will take about 50 mins, and afterwards
the speakers will be available to answer questions. We especially
encourage attendees who are new to MT or interested in combining MT
observations with planned seismic studies.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing
information about joining the webinar. The live broadcast is limited to
the first 500 attendees. All IRIS webinars are archived for later
viewing at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD4D607C2FA317E6D

General questions about webinars (webinar<at>iris.edu) or inquiries about
the MT program and suggestions for the webinar series
(andy.frassetto<at>iris.edu) are welcome.
