*Position Summary*
UNAVCO maintains and operates the Geodetic Facility for the Advancement of
Geoscience (GAGE) which provides support to the NSF investigator community
for geodesy, Earth Sciences research, education and workforce development
with broad societal benefits. As part of GAGE, UNAVCO operates a large
network of geodetic instruments (primarily GNSS) and a world class data
facility and archive. We are seeking applicants for a *Software Engineer
III *to support UNAVCO’s transition to a cloud native architecture. This
new position will primarily focus on guiding the Data Services team through
a full transition to a cloud native architecture.
The *Software Engineer III *will work with general direction and is
expected to identify and resolve most problems, and to actively participate
in matters of operational impact to UNAVCO. The incumbent will mentor and
review work of members of the data transition team. Additionally, this
position will work with the geosciences community to coordinate and/or
participate in activities and obtain feedback on the transition to a cloud
native architecture.
*Essential Job Functions*
- Leads the establishment of and follows internal software development,
testing and documentation methodologies, policies, and best practices to
ensure a robust software development environment is maintained.
- Continually works to acquire and improve skills relevant to the progr
am.
- Keeps abreast of current best practices and trends affecting a cloud
native architecture. May author technical reports and present at
conferences.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation
of the business.
*This position requires familiarity or a willingness to enthusiastically
learn containerization (applications, databases, metadata and data),
container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes), HDF5 standards and cloud
deployment strategies.*
*Job Location*
Boulder, Colorado, United States. UNAVCO supports a robust remote work
environment,
while the job is located in Boulder, alternate living locations will be
considered.
*Required Experience*
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics,
Geophysics or related field and six years software development experience.
Master’s degree with 2 years of experience in software development highly
desired.
