Position as Researcher available at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo
The position is for a period of 30 months/2.5 years with starting date no later than 01.Sep.2021.
The position is within the MAMMAMIA project that investigates processes responsible for glacier acceleration adopting a multi-scale-multi-method approach. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway (2020-2024) and performs field measurements in Ny Ålesund, Svalbard, in collaboration with several national and international partners. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collect seismological data in the field, and be responsible for processing and analyzing these data in context with other sources of information acquired within the project, in close collaboration with project partners.
Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Geosciences, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science (or similar), with a strong record in seismology. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment.
The candidate must have a strong background in environmental seismology with experience in processing seismological data and applying state-of-the-art methodology for interpreting these data.
A strong experience in programming (Python/Matlab or other) is required.
A glaciology background and experience from cryoseismology are desirable.
Previous experiences in glacier fieldwork, numerical modeling and handling of large data sets are desirable.
The candidate’s publication record must show evidence of creativity and capability of independent research.
Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are necessary.
