The Assistant Teaching Fellows will contribute to the mission of the Department of Earth Science and Engineering in undergraduate teaching of geology, geophysics and planetary science, and related administration. The teaching fellows will assist with remote and/or in-person teaching on a wide range of modules to facilitate delivery during the multi-mode 21/22 academic year. The Assistant Teaching Fellows are not expected to undertake subject-based research; these are teaching and administrative posts under the Professional, Technical and Operational Services – Learning and Teaching families.

Duties and responsibilities
Your duties will include the following:

Contribute to the delivery of the undergraduate degree programmes by teaching undergraduates in a wide range of modules and subject areas, through both remote and in-person routes.
Be an enthusiastic and effective teacher in at least four of the following areas, which the two posts will cover between them: Field geology; field geophysics; sedimentology and stratigraphy; igneous/metamorphic geology and mineralogy; structural geology; remote sensing and GIS, mathematics*, programming*, planetary science, physics*. * to a level appropriate to our degrees.
Contribute to small-group teaching leading tutorials and small-group seminars
Contribute to the assessment of undergraduates, through marking of coursework and examinations, and the generation of student feedback. To participate in activities such as student recruitment, student placements, professional development and outreach work
To teach undergraduates as a member of the departmental teaching team within the established geoscience degree programme
To give lectures, seminars and tutorials, and lead practical classes
To teach on geophysical/geological field classes
Essential requirements
You must have:

A first degree (or equivalent) in geophysics or geology and either a relevant post-graduate qualification or significant post-graduate experience within the wider area of Earth Sciences
A proven track record in undergraduate teaching or mentoring in an Earth Science department, and associated administration.
Experience with delivery of teaching through remote technologies
Up-to-date specialist knowledge in depth and breadth in at least four of the following areas: Field geology; field geophysics; sedimentology and stratigraphy; igneous/metamorphic geology and mineralogy; structural geology; remote sensing and GIS, mathematics, programming, planetary science, physics
