Open Until: 2021-07-02
Recruiting Department
Marine Seismology Research Group, Subduction Dynamics Research Center (SDR), Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG)
We are soliciting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher who will work on the cooperative research project between JAMSTEC and a private company titled, "Seismic imaging of submarine volcanoes in the coastal area (FY2021-2023, P.I.: Shuichi Kodaira)". The successful applicant will engage in the following research and development initiatives.
[Research Description]
The Marine Seismology Research Group, SDR, IMG, conducts seismic structure studies using the marine seismic exploration systems of JAMSTEC, such as ocean bottom seismometers, a hydrophone streamer cable, and controlled seismic sources, to contribute to a better understanding of the seismogenic zones and volcanoes around Japan and the western Pacific.
We invite applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher who will be involved in seismic imaging studies in the coastal region to contribute to evaluation of the seismic and volcanic hazards. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in the following work through active collaboration with specialists from IMG and other domestic and foreign institutes.
1) Development of seismic imaging techniques using a densely observed wavefield, such as waveform inversion and reverse-time migration, to obtain detailed seismic structures, including seismic velocities, attenuations, and reflection profiles.
2) Application of the developed methods to numerical simulation and actual datasets to demonstrate the efficacy of the methods and interpret the imaging results.
3) Presenting the results of the research and development at academic conferences and publishing them as peer-reviewed papers.
