The Syracuse University Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences (thecollege.syr.edu/earth-sciences-department) seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in the broad field of seismic subsurface imaging, who will complement our current strengths in tectonics, basin evolution, water resources, geodynamics, paleoclimatology and geochemistry. This recruitment is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of Energy and Environment. Faculty hired into these positions will participate in an organized research cluster that spans multiple departments across several Colleges. The Department welcomes applicants with expertise in deployment of seismic instrumentation, and collection and analysis of both active- and passive-source seismic data sets. The ideal candidate will collaborate across traditional disciplinary boundaries within the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences and the greater SU community, which includes expertise in energy, sustainability, and water resources. Candidates who can apply seismology to broad fields such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage, and Near-Surface Geophysics are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will establish a strong externally funded research program from diverse funding sources and develop a portfolio of excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants are expected to teach a large, introductory-level class in Earth Science, contribute to existing courses in geohazards and geophysics and develop new undergraduate and graduate courses in seismology and subsurface imaging.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, and a one-page statement describing how you would contribute to the University’s commitment to fostering a diverse ad inclusive community, copies of three relevant publications, and contact information for three referees via www.sujobopps.com/postings/89103 (Job# 076004). Review of applications will begin 1 November 2021. The search will remain open until the position is filled. Queries may be addressed to the Search Chair, Prof. Robert Moucha, Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Syracuse University (thecollege.syr.edu/people/faculty/moucha-robert).
