The Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island seeks a motivated PhD student in the field of marine seismology and geophysics. The selected student will study the mantle plume – spreading center interaction near the Galapagos. The student will participate in the deployment and recovery of ocean-bottom seismometers (https://www.soest.hawaii.edu/GG/FACULTY/ITO/Galapagos_Expedition_ApplyToSail) and collaborate with a group of seismologists and geodynamicists from several institutions in the analysis and interpretation of an amazingly rich set of seismic data. The student will gain skills and experiences in data processing and analysis, high-performance computing, inverse method, seismic tomography, and more. The candidates should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in geophysics, earth sciences, physics, or other related fields. Experience in computer programming and seismic data analysis is preferred.
