Attention all users and potential users of the IRIS-SAGE Seismic Source Facility

We wanted to bring to the attention of those PI’s requiring proposal support for using the Seismic Source Facility (SSF) that we will have limited access to key personnel this winter. The SSF team (Galen Kaip-PI and Manny Moncada) will be in the deep field in Antarctica supporting a large active source experiment and will have very limited contact from mid-November through January. If you are considering a proposal that will require budget estimation support from the SSF over the next 3 months (FRES will fall into this window), please contact Galen Kaip immediately. Galen will be mobilizing to Antarctica at the end of October and will be in the deep field with VERY limited inReach contact from 11/15/22 - 2/1/23. If you can provide a brief outline of your expected support requirements sooner rather than later, Galen can try to give some rough first order estimates of costs.

Please include Kent Anderson (IRIS Portable Program Manger) on your requests and I will try to contact Galen in the field to help refine cost estimates. It would be best, however, to get your initial requests and proposal plans into Galen in the next few weeks to allow him time to collect information he will need to get started.

Thank you for your attention and please contact us if you have any questions

Kent Anderson - IRIS Portable Program Manager (kent<at>iris.edu)
Galen Kaip - SSF Director/PI - UTEP (gkaip<at>utep.edu)

The Seismic Source Facility is part of the SAGE facility, operated by IRIS through a subaward to UTEP.
