Hello webservices subscribers,

IRIS is moving its mailing lists to a new system which will result in a few changes to your mailing list experience. This change should occur within the next hour.

The main differences between the new IRIS Message Center and the old system you should be aware of are:

1. Mailing lists will now have their own domain name (lists.ds.iris.edu).

Old address: webservices at iris.washington.edu
New address: webservices at lists.ds.iris.edu

If you have a spam catcher, whitelist, or filtering rule that works on the current mailing list address, you may need to update it. We will ensure that the old email address continues to accept messages for a while, to ensure a smooth transition, but eventually it will be discontinued.

2. Previously, each mailing list was independent. Consequently, you had a separate password for each list, and you may have received multiple copies of a message cross-posted to multiple lists. The new system is centralized -- you will have just one login for all Message Center topics -- and is divided into "topics" which allows a particular message to be addressed to multiple groups more easily. For most traffic, this change will be invisible and the new list will work just like the old one.

As part of our migration, we will replicate all the current mailing list and subscriber information, and you will be automatically subscribed to the Message Center topic(s) replacing the old list.

Once the migration is complete we will send an announcement through the new system, so the next message you receive should be from the new address with instructions on how to use the Message Center.

Please contact us at webmaster at iris.washington.edu if you have any problems or concerns.

Cheers,
IRIS DMC
