Ecuadorian Seismic Network Data now being shared with IRIS
Beginning in March data from 19 stations from the National Seismic Network in Ecuador are being made available in real time to the IRIS DMC and is openly available to anyone world wide. The network is operated by the Instituto Geofisico Escuela Politecnica Nacional (IG-EPN Ecuador) in Quito, Ecuador and is managed by Dr Mario Ruiz. Information about the network can be found on the International Federation of Broadband Digital Seismograph Networks (FDSN) here
The network uses instrumentation from Nanometrics and is comprised of Trillium 120P seismometers and records data from 19 stations at 100 samples per second. While installed primarily to monitor seismicity around the Ecuadorian volcanoes, the network forms the backbone of a larger network in Ecuador.
This is an important contribution to IRIS and our global community of data users.
