The *Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS),*
centrally located in Washington, D.C., is a consortium of over 100 US
universities dedicated to the operation of science facilities for the
acquisition, management, and distribution of seismological data. IRIS
programs contribute to scholarly research, education, earthquake hazard
mitigation, and verification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

We have a need for a *Data Quality Specialist/Scheduler*. In this new
position, the Data Quality Specialist will play a key role in supporting
the Ocean Bottom Seismograph Instrument Pool (OBSIP). The Data Quality
Specialist is responsible for performing quality assurance for all Ocean
Bottom Seismograph Instrument Pool data, developing software tools,
documenting OBSIP data analysis and maintaining the schedule for OBSIP
facility operations.

*Additional responsibilities include:*

* Performs quality assessment of all OBSIP data and takes
appropriate action to resolve data collections problems
* Reviews past and present data deliveries, metadata, and instrument
responses
* Develops higher-level data products as required, including
horizontal component orientations
* Develops and implements new quality assessment methods and tools
* Prepares reports highlighting activities related to OBSIP data
operations
* Ensures OBSIP data are uploaded to the IRIS Data Management Center
in an accurate and timely way

*Requirements:*

The ideal candidate will possess the following abilities, attributes,
experience and skills:

* Bachelor’s degree, preferably Master’s in science or engineering
* Excellent organizational and interpersonal and communication skills
* Extensive understanding of seismology or experience with seismic
time series data
* Computer programming experience: MATLAB

*Desired Skills:*

* Experience with OBS data corrections (clock drift analysis and
correction, horizontal component orientation)
* Operationally fluent in the UNIX environment. UNIX shell
programming experience.
* Familiarity with relational database systems
* Computer programming experience: C, Python, SQL, HTML
* Knowledge of data management techniques and experience using
database management systems
