The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) Early
Career Investigators (ECI) Working Group invites applications to an
IRIS-ECI colloquium matching travel funds program. These funds are
available to enable ECIs, defined as post qualifying exam Ph.D. students
to pre-tenure faculty that reside at IRIS-member institutions, to
present their research at another IRIS-member/affiliate institution.
This program aims to promote the work of ECIs and bolster the external
research intake of departments with limited funds for speaker-related
travel.
Applications should take the form of a short (<1 page, PDF format)
justification containing the following information:
-Name and affiliation of presenter
-Name and affiliation of presenter’s host
-Title/topic of presentation
-Explanation of how the presentation and associated visit of the speaker
will benefit the speaker’s and host’s/department’s research
-Proposed reimbursement amount (half of total expenses related to
transportation and lodging, up to $500)
Qualifying ECIs may email their application to Andy Frassetto
(andyf<at>iris.edu), CCing their host. Only one submission per ECI is
allowed. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Once accepted, funds will be reserved for reimbursement upon
completion of an IRIS travel expense report. Note that the seminar and
receipt of expense report must occur before June 30, 2014.
Please contact Andy with any questions or concerns.
