The Seismology Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has an opening for an experienced scientist to perform advanced and independent research to support the Geophysical Monitoring Programs. We are seeking an individual with exceptional quantitative skills and experience in analyzing and/or modeling geophysical data as well as experience with seismo-acoustic data on the characterization of explosions.

LLNL is a major national laboratory that possesses world-class capabilities in high-performance computational science. The seismology group consists of 18 geophysicists and computational scientists working on a variety of projects and potentially game-changing technologies.
Requirements include: PhD in seismology, geophysics or associated field, or equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge. Demonstrated advanced knowledge in quantitative wave propagation phenomena. Advanced knowledge and significant experience in seismoacoustic analysis of energetic events and seismological and geophysical methods for characterizing the subsurface. Demonstrated ability to organize and analyze large waveform, event, amplitude and/or arrival databases. Experience in collecting, processing and analyzing local/regional seismic data, including forward and inverse modeling. Demonstrated advanced analytical and computational skills including advanced programming skills in java, C/C++, FORTRAN, PYTHON or other languages. Experience with geophysical time-series analysis and feature measurement. Ability to interact effectively with a team of interdisciplinary scientists with diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills with experien!
ce writing and presenting reports, publications, and proposals.
For consideration at a higher level (SES.4), candidate should possess substantial experience and subject matter expertise in geophysical and seismoacoustic research, success in proposing projects to multiple agencies, substantial experience in project planning, highly complex technical leadership, and experience developing and implementing creative solutions to a diverse range of highly complex problems and expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to advise senior management and to positively represent the Program and the Laboratory.
This position will report to the Seismology group leader and the Program Leaders. Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
