dear sac experts, I have a problem with the picking of S phase in sac. I
follow this procedure to save pickings:
1) r filename.*.sac
2) ohpf pickings.txt
3) ppk p 3 bell off
then I type 'p' and then 'h' at the P wave arrival time, and it works fine
because the pickings.txt file will contain a row in the correct format for
that station (after the file has been closed by chpf).
However, if I type 's' and then 'h' for the S wave arrival time, it does
not work. In fact in the pickings.txt file I find an empty row filled with
1000 blank instead of the expected string.
I am working with sac 2013, version 101.6a on linux debian. I tried also
sac2000, 2005 and 2009, even on ubuntu, but I could never obtain a correct
picking of the S wave.
Can anyone help me? Am I doing something wrong? thank you very much.

Dear Mario,
The second command should be:
sac>oapf picking.txt. # this command open a picking file instead ohpf
that open hypo file.
sac> ppk .....
here, see the manual to understand the plotpktable commands
sac> help plotpktable
to do pickings, when you finish close with Q the ppk instance
sac> capf picking.txt. # close the picking.txt file
and you should to find your pickings in the file.
HTH,
M.
