*Postdoctoral position, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia
University*
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in inverse
modeling of glacial isostatic adjustment.
The successful candidate will use glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA)
modeling to better understand solid Earth properties, ice sheet
evolution, and sea level change since the last glacial maximum.
Particularly, the successful candidate will use gradient-based
optimization to solve the GIA inverse problem within a laterally
heterogeneous earth model.
Candidates should have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in
Geophysics (Seismology, Geodynamics, Glaciology) or related discipline.
Excellent programming and mathematical skills are highly desired. Prior
experience in one or more of the following is a plus: inverse theory,
adjoint methods, glacial isostatic adjustment modeling, sea level or
cryospheric research. Evidence of the ability to conduct and publish
high quality research is desired.
Proposed start date is August 1st 2019, with some flexibility.
Appointment will be for 1-year, with continuation pending funding and
progress.
Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and
will continue until the position is filled.
