Hi,

I think that the channel IU.TIXI.00.BHZ (STS-1) is reversed.
It seems that the STS-1 sensor on location 10 of station TIXI has been
reversed ( at least for the Z channel) since july 2019.

Comparison with the STS-2 on the location 10 shows the opposite polarity of
the P-wave first motion. Below an example of a P-wave recorded on TIXI
station following Mw 5.9, Northern Molucca Sea on the 2020-01-29 23:46:53
UTC.

ILink for U.TIXI.00.BHZ :
http://service.iris.edu/irisws/timeseriesplot/1/query?net=IU&sta=TIXI&loc=00&cha=BHZ&start=2020-01-29T23%3A57%3A55&end=2020-01-29T23%3A58%3A20

Link for IU.TIXI.10.BHZ :
http://service.iris.edu/irisws/timeseriesplot/1/query?net=IU&sta=TIXI&loc=10&cha=BHZ&start=2020-01-29T23%3A57%3A55&end=2020-01-29T23%3A58%3A20

According to last centroid moment tensor solutions, STS-2 ( 10.BHZ) have
the right polarity.
Do you agree with this thoughts , sensor response should be updated for a
DIP = 90° ?

Historical events checked :
2019-06-24 M 7.3 - 292km NW of Saumlaki, Indonesia - OK (STS-2 == STS-1)
2019-07-07 M 6.9 - 134km WSW of Kota Ternate, Indonesia - WHITE NOISE for
STS-1
2019-07-14 M 7.2 - 93km NNE of Laiwui, Indonesia - WHITE NOISE for STS-1
2019-08-02 M 6.9 - 106km WSW of Tugu Hilir, Indonesia - WRONG (STS-1
reversed)
2019-09-25 M 6.5 - 11km S of Kairatu, Indonesia - WRONG (STS-1 reversed)
2019-11-14 M 7.1 - 138km E of Bitung, Indonesia - WRONG (STS-1 reversed)
2020-01-29 M 5.9 - Northern Molucca Sea - WRONG (STS-1 reversed)

    Hi Anthony,

    Thanks very much for your email. I’ve forwarded it to the QA team at the Albuquerque
    Seismological Laboratory to see what they say. I see they have logged issues with this
    channel since it pegged in July of 2019 (as you mention). I’ll let you know what I learn.

    cheers,
    Mary
