THREE (3) TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS IN ‘SUSTAINABLE EARTH SYSTEMS SCIENCE’
The Department of Geosciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas at Dallas is searching to fill up to three tenure-system faculty positions in the area of sustainable earth systems science. Sustainable earth systems science includes all earth science aspects of the complex dynamic interactions between the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere.
We are searching for candidates to develop exciting new research and teaching programs in sustainable earth systems science. Appointments may be at the level of Assistant, Associate, or in exceptional cases Full Professor. Preference will be given to candidates applying for Assistant Professor. The appointees must have a PhD degree and have the potential to achieve (at the Assistant level), or have achieved (at the Associate and Full level), a significant record of research and scholarly publication in top-tier refereed journals.
Up to three tenure-system faculty positions are to be filled for an August 1, 2022 start date. Candidates for these positions should have a relevant earth science PhD degree and ideally postdoctoral research experience, with demonstrated research expertise and clear potential for securing external research funding in the theme of sustainable earth system science and natural resources. Teaching responsibilities will include both undergraduate and advanced graduate level courses in this theme. A demonstrated ability to integrate a broad range of geological and geophysical methods for research and teaching is preferred, including quantitative field or laboratory measurements, surface and subsurface investigations, and modern theoretical, computational, or data analytical approaches. The successful candidates will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program with an absolute commitment to secure external research funding. Opportunities exist to collaborate and build upon our current strengths in energy, CCS, tectonics, earthquakes, water, and environmental earth science; all attractive areas for government and industry research funding, and future student career employment opportunities.
The Department of Geosciences is entering a rebuilding phase following several recent retirements, and the successful candidates will have an opportunity to play a significant role in shaping this new effort. UT Dallas is a relatively young and rapidly rising Tier1 institution, ranked #17 (Nature) in the world among universities less than 50 years old, and rated as one of the best universities to work at in the US. UTD attracts highly talented and diverse students (>160 National Merit scholars per year, mean freshman SAT scores > 1320) and is situated in the Dallas Fort Worth metropolitan area that is a national hotspot for economic growth.
