The School of Earth and Sustainability at Northern Arizona University is seeking a full time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor, with an appointment beginning in August 2022. The nine-month position may be renewable based on satisfactory performance and School needs.
The successful applicant will teach Natural Disasters (GLG 112) and upper-division classes each semester. Additional responsibilities include contributing to a positive working environment with a culturally diverse population of faculty, staff, and students and providing service at the unit and/or university level as appropriate for an Assistant Teaching Professor.
The successful candidate will prioritize SES's efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion while engaging students, faculty, and external stakeholders on challenging issues critical to a just and sustainable society.
Assistant Teaching Professor in Geology:
• Provide excellent instruction, particularly at the undergraduate level.
• Teach GLG 112 (Geologic Disasters) classes and additional upper-division classes.
• Contribute to a positive working environment with a culturally diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
• Provide service to NAU at the unit and/or university level as appropriate for an Assistant Teaching Professor.
Minimum Qualifications
• PhD in the Geosciences or related field as of August 1, 2022.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
• Evidence of effectiveness in teaching.
• Demonstrated experience designing and teaching introductory geoscience courses at the undergraduate level.
• Demonstrated experience teaching geology in the field and classroom, with state of the art technology, including novel pedagogical techniques.
• Ability to teach in the areas of igneous and metamorphic petrology and/or mineralogy.
• Interest in mentoring undergraduate research projects in the geosciences.
• Experience and commitment to promoting success of people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
