FiberSense R&D Internship Program
Applications closing: 1 March 2023
Summer 2023

FiberSense invites graduate and senior undergraduate students to apply for its summer Internship Program. FS Interns will work on next generation distributed fiber-optic sensing applications alongside the R&D Team in Oakland, California. The FS Internship Program will run for a 3-month block during May – September. Interns will work collaboratively on projects tackling aspects of data exploration, numerical modeling of seismological/geodetic/oceanographic processes, and real-time algorithm development. Example summer project topics include subsurface characterization, tsunami detection/tracking, metrology, and multi-fiber path calibration.

You can be based anywhere within the USA. The R&D team works from the Oakland office however interns can live and work from anywhere. We expect interns to maintain 40 hr/week, join weekly webcalls with team, and meet all other responsibilities. If you are willing to relocate to Oakland for the summer, we can also explore that.

Responsibilities

* Design project focused on product/research aim.
* Present to group on 1) project updates and 2) research in distributed sensing/geophysics weekly.
* Contribute relevant, clean, concise quality documentation to the FS knowledge base to support and increase organizational information sharing.
* Respectfully communicate and engage with colleagues at all times.

Requirements

* B.S. degree in Computer Science, Physics/Engineering, Applied Math, IT or related fields
* Experience in exploratory data analysis
* Experience in Python/Matlab and/or C/Fortran for numerical programming
* Non-disclosure agreement

Compensation
$5000/month + relocation stipend on a case-by-case basis.

Data Policy
FiberSense maintains ownership over all data used during the internship. We understand journal publication may depend on data being available to the intern after the internship program concludes, or eventually being placed in the public domain subject to FAIR data standards. Continued access and public domain access of a particular dataset will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
