A large-scal seismic deep-refraction line across the Arabian Shield and coastal plain of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was proposed in 1974 by the USGS/DGMR. The refraction profile constitutes part of a larger program to delineate the crustal structure and tectonic framework of a 150 km wide strip transecting the major tectonic, structural, and lithologic provinces of the Arabian Shield.
